History
Since the late 70's, Belgian businessmen, regularly met under the chairmanship of Mr. Guy ROBBE, the SABENA regional general manager. Big social gatherings were frequently organized at his house, where a lot of Belgians got to know each other.
In 1984, a small group of Belgians took the initiative to start officially a Belgian club. During the first meeting, (22 March 1984) different work groups ( Economy & Business. Social & Recreational. Cultural, Scientific & Academic) were formed ' in order to work out a global proposal on the subject to be presented to the Belgian Community'.
The official installation took place on the 4th July 1985 and the notification effecting the Belgian and Luxembourg Association of Singapore BLAS was published in the Singapore Government Gazette of the 2.07.1985 (Notification number 2373). The first General meeting was held on the 5th November 1985 at the Belgian Pub-Restaurant "SAXOPHONE" as the venue and Mr. Guy ROBBE as first President.
Monthly activities are organized for adults as well as for children. The BLAS members, who returned to their homeland, have formed the "SINGAPORE OLD TIMERS" This under the initiative of former BLAS president, Georges CASTERMANS. They meet yearly, alternatively in Belgium and Luxembourg.
